About The Redeemed Christian Church of God

RCCG Global

Our History

In July 1909, a son was born into the Akindayomi family of Ondo State, Nigeria. Though raised among idol worshippers, young Josiah Akindayomi yearned to know the true God. His spiritual journey led him to the Church Missionary Society where he was baptized in 1927, and later to the Cherubim and Seraphim church in 1931.

For seven years, Pa Akindayomi heard God's call to ministry but resisted until financial failures and debt brought him to complete surrender in 1938. God confirmed His call through Scripture (Jeremiah 1:4-10, Isaiah 41:10-13, Romans 8:29-31) and promised to provide for his needs.

By 1952, concerned about doctrinal drift in his church, Pa Akindayomi started a house fellowship called "The Glory of God Fellowship" at Willoughby Street, Ebute-Metta, Lagos with nine members. In a divine vision, God revealed the name "The Redeemed Christian Church of God" to the illiterate Akindayomi, who supernaturally wrote it down. God established a covenant with him, promising global expansion and divine provision if members remained faithful.
